Maple Pecan Scones

Maple Pecan Scones

Ingredients
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2/3 maples syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 tsp salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 baking sheet.
  3. In a large bowl, with a fork, stir together flour, pecans, baking powder and salt.
  4. Cut in butter until it resembles coarse meal.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together maples syrup and cream.
  6. Make a well in the center of dry ingredients and slowly pour in liquid ingredients, combining with swift strokes just until the dough clings together. The dough will be firm.
  7. Roll out about 2 inches thick on a lightly floured surface the scones will not rise much higher than this in the oven.
  8. Cut scones with a 3 inch round biscuit cutter and place on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  9. Brush tops with additional maple syrup.
  10. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until tops are lightly browned.
  11. Transfer to a rack to cool. Serve warm or at room temp.
  12. Makes 11 large scones
